The Colossus of Rhodes is an ancient bronze statue of the Greek sun-god Helios that stood in the city of Rhodes on the Greek island of Rhodes, representing one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Designed by the sculptor Chares of Lindos and completed around 280 BC after 12 years of construction, the statue commemorated Rhodes's successful defence against the siege by Demetrius I of Macedon in 305 BC.
