Pythagoreion and Heraion of Samos is a pair of adjoining archaeological sites in the Greek Aegean that illustrate urban commerce and religious devotion in the ancient Mediterranean. Pythagoreion, originally called Tigani, functioned as a fortified port city from the 10th century BC, while the Heraion, located approximately 6 kilometers southwest, served as a grand sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Hera.
