The Wieskirche, or Pilgrimage Church of Wies, stands in the foothills of the Alps in Bavaria, Germany, as an architectural and artistic landmark of European Rococo design. The church originates from a reported miracle in 1738 when tears were witnessed on a wooden figure of Christ, which prompted pilgrimage and the construction of a wooden chapel.
